Big Sky Chamber of Commerce and Big Sky Resort Area District Host Legislative FAM Tour
Big Sky's Chamber of Commerce and Resort Area District hosted lawmakers from across the state, so they could better understand the unique challenges and remarkable solutions that define the resort community. Representatives discussed the area's history and their success as an unincorporated town, thriving through self-determination and local problem-solving.
Lawmakers learned about the community's wildfire preparedness and the pressing challenges of the Highway 191 and MT 64 intersection. (DYK? Highway 191 is the second busiest road in the state, trailing I-90, and busier than I-15.)
They also toured sites funded by the resort tax. They gained insights into the statewide economic impact of Big Sky, which is 5% of the Montana GDP, and has a taxable value greater than Bozeman, Billings and Missoula combined.
Lawmakers also left with the knowledge that Big Sky faces the same challenges as other Montana towns, including retaining teachers and nurses, providing housing for working families and maintaining infrastructure.
