Get to Know Your Neighbors: Summer in Big Sky!

Big Sky's popularity as a winter destination is well known, but the locals know a secret: summer is just as exceptional. At 7,000 feet above sea level, Big Sky's cool mountain air is perfect for hiking, biking, fishing, rafting, golfing and horseback riding.

Its location in the Madison Range makes Big Sky desirable for those seeking day trips to Yellowstone National Park, Hebgen or Earthquake Lakes, Ennis, or historic Virginia and Nevada cities. Its proximity to Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport also makes it possible to get to from almost anywhere in the country within a day’s travel.

Big Sky Resort also hosts many summer activities perfect for entertaining all ages. Their downhill mountain bike trails are lift-served, or you can enjoy a scenic lift ride and take in the views up the mountain and down. Golf, zip lines, guided hikes, archery and disc golf are all family favorites. When the little ones need to expend more energy, Adventure Mountain has mini golf, a bungee trampoline, a rock-climbing wall, a giant swing and gemstone mining to keep them entertained after the day's adventures.

Town Square is home to the weekly Farmers Market on Wednesdays from 5 to 8 p.m. and Music in the Mountains, a free summer concert series each Thursday from late June to early September. The evenings host regional bands, local food trucks, cold beverages and a family-friendly vibe.

If you're lucky enough to get tickets, Big Sky PBR takes place July 17-19 and is known as one of the best competitions in the circuit. You can also enjoy the Lone Mountain Ranch Rodeo each Tuesday. Be sure to check out the Historic Crail Ranch and Crail Ranch Homestead Museum to learn more about homesteading in Big Sky and the coming of Big Sky Resort.

Culturally speaking, Warren Miller Performing Arts Center hosts live performances of theater, film, music and dance. You'll find art galleries and boutiques. Be sure to bring your appetite because Big Sky has a host of delicious dining experiences, from kid-approved casual restaurants to date night fine dining, a local brewery, and lovely grocery stores if you prefer to stay in for an evening.

Check out this mountain gem if you're looking for a staycation to remember.
