Restrictions at Cooney State Park During Restoration Project this Spring
The 2022 floods brought sustained high water and destructive wave action to Cooney Reservoir, resulting in severe erosion and washouts on the shores of the Marshall Cove and Red Lodge Campgrounds. Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks will begin restoration efforts this spring to reestablish and revitalize these areas.
In Red Lodge Campground, multiple campsites, the day-use parking area and shoreline access near the campsites will be closed. Day use near the boat ramp at Red Lodge Campground will remain open. Marshall Cove Campground, including the boat ramp and day use area, will be closed during the project. Users will have the opportunity to camp at Cottonwood Campground as needed during construction. Otherwise, the park will remain open to visitors and all uses during construction.
